Remarkable Mountains Heli Hike

Minutes from Queenstown and you’re on top of the world.

GWNZ heli hike Remarkables 1

In this area, surrounded by towering jagged mountain peaks and hidden alpine plant life, you can hike and explore at your leisure. Endless mountain tops, hidden valleys and lakes as far as the eye can see, Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu far below. Silence and remoteness surround you in this very special environment. A delicious picnic lunch, a view you have to see to believe, make this day an unforgettable experience.

From your accommodation in Queenstown our luxury vehicle will deliver you to your waiting helicopter at a nearby airport. From there you will fly into the Remarkable Mountains (approx 10 minutes flight time).

We land at approx 6000ft in a pristine alpine environment with magnificent views in all directions. From this point we can choose to hike in the rocky ridge and valley areas of alpine tussocks, rock gardens and fell fields, or to traverse the razorback skyline ridges. All with the amazing feeling of being ‘on top of the world’ with views in all directions. On a clear day, you can even see Mt Cook, our highest mountain. Many of the alpine plants are unique to this area and photo opportunities are plentiful.

You set the pace
The distance walked and the time taken, will be entirely up to your ability and desires.
The ridge and valley areas allow for greater distance, and/or more strenuous hiking, while the razorback skyline ridges require more precise and demanding discipline. Your guide will not expose you to any risks that they considers unsafe or beyond your capabilities.

At a time that suits you, the helicopter will return to pick you up and deliver you safely back at the airport. From here we will then return you to your accommodation.

Our aim is always to give you an experience that is enjoyable, unforgettable, and the highlight of your visit to New Zealand.

Mountains to Sea & Sand

Privately guided full day heli-hike around the lower South Island.

Sutherland Falls

We’ll pick you up from your accommodation (suggest 8.30am) and head for the airport. There we’ll board the helicopter and fly towards the North West, over the Shotover River, up the Moonlight River where we land in a secluded valley on Ben Lomond High Country Station ranch. Here, we’ll walk for approx 2-3 hours along a ridge, climbing easily towards Mt Gilbert, where the Helicopter awaits.

The afternoon is spent flying through New Zealand’s magnificent Southern Alps. Flying into the amazing Earnslaw burn, seeing spectacular ice shelves and many small glaciers before flying over the Fiordland and Mt Aspiring National Parks. Then to a pristine West Coast beach and the Tasman Sea, to walk on the beautiful beaches of the wild and remote West Coast of the South Island - where the only access is by helicopter.

Take the opportunity to see wild/bird-life first hand and prospect for Greenstone and Paua (abalone) shells, as we stroll along the beach. At the opposite end of the beach, we meet our helicopter and depart south over the famous Hollyford Valley to our private spot in the Humboldt Mountains for lunch.

After our gourmet lunch, we head back to Queenstown via the Cecil Peak ‘ledge’ for photos to conclude the day.
