Guided Walks since 1868...

We are New Zealand’s oldest guided walking company. Started by the Bryant family, who ran trips for four generations, based out of Kinloch Lodge at the head of Lake Wakatipu into the Routeburn Valley. Followed by Peter and Karyn Hitchman, who in 2009 added snowshoe trips in winter. Now owned by Ngāi Tahu Tourism, a business subsidiary of the largest Maori tribe in the South Island of New Zealand.

Ngāi Tahu guided the first European’s into the South Island, so having Guided Walks New Zealand as one of our family owned businesses was a natural step to take.

It’s more than a business, its a calling.

Travis Donoghue

Welcome

Travis Donoghue, Business Manager for Guided Walks NZ.

We have built a team who have been guiding and instructing in the mountains and forests of New Zealand for the last decade and beyond. Taking groups deep into the lush forests and high above the snow line, into the pristine, untouched world of the alpine region. We have a vast knowledge of the flora, fauna, history and geology of this beautiful region.

It’s our privilege, to take you into some of the most beautiful and spectacular areas in the Queenstown and Fiordland region, to experience everything from glacial valleys and majestic mountains, to beautiful lakes and pristine rainforest. From half and full day bush walks, to three-day guided fully-hosted trips. We offer a range of options to suit everyone. In winter, we go beyond the forested hills, to experience the serenity of the spectacular 'back country' around Queenstown on snowshoes.

We’ve chosen our range of walks for their natural history, scenic beauty, remote locations and varied terrain. We’re proud of our company's reputation for providing friendly, informative and personalised guided walks for small groups.

Our ‘platinum’ experience is the Hollyford Track - one of the greatest guided walks in New Zealand. In three days, you will journey from the wilderness to the sea. Traversing the Hollyford Valley by foot, jet boat and finally helicopter. Your expert and passionate guides bring to life, the natural and human history of the valley, while our small group size ensures a personal and comfortable experience.
